Experience the Alaska Range with an unforgettable team of backcountry companions. Our friendly reindeer can carry up to 40 pounds of gear, lightening your pack while adding a touch of magic to an already extraordinary wilderness journey.

Unlike traditional pack animals, reindeer thrive on the native vegetation of the Arctic. As we travel through alpine valleys and tundra, they'll happily browse willow leaves, sedges, lichens, and mushrooms—their own version of a trailside buffet.

With dependable reindeer packers, experienced backcountry human guides, and adventurous canine companions leading the way, we'll explore the breathtaking Alaska Range in search of wildlife. Keep your eyes open for ptarmigan, moose, and the reindeer's wild cousin, the caribou, as we immerse ourselves in one of Alaska's most spectacular landscapes.

Itinerary

July 7 – Arrival Day
Arrive at Susitna Adventure Lodge and settle in for the evening. Meet your guides, fellow adventurers, and, of course, your reindeer and canine companions. We'll review the trip, fit and organize gear, pack the reindeer, and prepare for the days ahead before spending the night at the lodge.

July 8 – Into the Alaska Range
After breakfast, we'll set out on our backpacking adventure into the spectacular Alaska Range. Hiking alongside our reindeer packers, we'll journey through breathtaking backcountry landscapes before establishing camp high in the alpine, surrounded by sweeping mountain views.

July 9 – A Full Day in the Backcountry
Wake to the quiet beauty of the Alaska wilderness and enjoy a leisurely breakfast in camp. We'll spend the day exploring alpine tundra, hiking with our reindeer companions, and keeping watch for wildlife along the way. Return to camp for another evening under Alaska's expansive skies.

July 10 – Return to the Lodge
Break camp and begin our trek back to Susitna Adventure Lodge, reflecting on the unforgettable experiences of the past few days. After arriving at the lodge, relax, share stories and photos with your new friends, and enjoy one final evening together before returning to civilization.

July 11 – Farewell
Enjoy a final breakfast before saying goodbye to your reindeer, canine, and human companions. Depart with unforgettable memories of an extraordinary Alaska Range adventure.

This adventure is open to all interested participants capable of traveling about 8-10 miles per day through mountainous terrain.

Transportation to and from Susitna Adventure Lodge at milepost 77 on the Denali Highway not included.
